Chelsea: From champions to chumps

Hey everyone and happy Easter break

So sorry for the silence.Being a Masters student in journalism keeps one on their toes constantly.

Just thought I'd talk a little bit about about my team Chelsea, soon to be dethroned by Manchester City as early as this weekend if they win the Manchester derby .

Anyway back to Chelsea. This has been on record one of the worst seasons,well 2015-16 was lot worse after finishing 10th. But my goodness, its really hard being a Chelsea fan these days .Dumped out of Europe by a fantastic FC Barcelona, lost in the semis of the Carabao cup to Arsenal and top 4 slipping away, not even winning the FA Cup will spare Antonio Conte, who looks certain to leave in May. I'll be forever grateful for changing Chelsea and making them champions again but at times he's been tactically outdone (Arsenal home and away,Man City home and away just to name a few)
Also the recruiting of players has been abysmal. Why would you sell Matic to your direct rivals ? or Diego Costa? Morata is good but he isnt someone who'll upset defenders like like Drogba used to during his 2 spells.Giroud is a temporary solution and why oh way did Michy go to Dortmund? He's been banging goals and assisting like crazy.Only Conte knows why he sanctioned the agreement

And Hazard,I expected so much from him.For a world class player,he needs to score more goals like Mo Salah at Liverpool (the one who got away,thank you José).Pedro has been poor as well,Fabregas is old and out of pace,Bakayoko has done little to justify his €40 million price tag,Cahill is in the same category as Fabregas, David Luiz just as bad and probably on his way out too.

How Chelsea can become competitive next season

Depending on who takes over (most likely Luis Enrique),they need to get rid of deadwood like Cahill, Fabregas etc(basically those over 30 years old) and integrate youth since the spending days are over

Find a way to get the best out of Bakayoko, Barkley etc. Hopefully they'll do better next season.Along with Kanté,either can cause damage.

Play Rudiger and Christansen more often. They're both young,quick and great ball players. Have them in a back 3 with Cesar Azpilicueta aka Dave or Mr Reliable.

Get Bathsuayi back and give him more game time.I'd pick him over Giroud (it pains me to say this since the Frenchman is better physically than him and Morata).

So thats my analysis of Chelsea so far

Champions League: What a week of drama

  Copyright fr.uefa.com Good afternoon everyone I hope you are all well and enjoying the last few weeks of the summer holidays,albeit in difficult circumstances. So the UEFA Champions League made its return 2 weeks ago with 2nd leg ties that still  needed to be played like Chelsea v Bayern Munich, Lyon v Juventus and Manchester City v Real Madrid and boy were there surprises with Lyon making it past the Italian Champions despite a 2-1 defeat and of course the end of Maurizio Sarri's tenure as head coach. Bayern Munich and Man City qualifying werent really shocks as the damage was done in the 1st leg, at least for Chelsea but thats not the exciting part.So for the first time ever 2 French teams in the semis and PSG's first semi final appearance since 1995.  Last Wednesday saw PSG come from behind to defeat Atlanta 2-1 with Marquinhos and Choupo-Moting gettting the goals. Chelsea v Southampton: 2 points dropped by the Blues

 Good afternoon everyone  I hope you're well and had a good weekend. So what a dramatic weekend of football we had starting with the Merseyside derby and it continued with Chelsea-Southampton which finished 3-3 after the Saints managed to grab a point at the death thanks to Vestergaard. Once again Chelsea fail to kill off a match and this will cost them dearly come end of the season. Where do I begin? oh yes the defence. With Mendy injured, Kepa was put in the starting XI to prove his worth to the coach and he failed the test. With Thiago Silva being left out with Sevilla to come in midweek it was the duo Zouma-Christiansen and I wasnt convinced one bit. Thankfully Lamaprd will be able to call on him for tomorrow's match and with Man United to come at the weekeend,it'll be interesting to see which team he sends out tomorrow night at the Bridge.Glad that Werner got a double and Havertz scored as well.
