Super Frank Lampard
Good day Chelsea fans and fellow football fans
I hope this blog finds you well. Sorry for the long absence. University and life have taken up a lot of my time but I'm here to write a new post as we enter the second international break.
So a lot has happened hey? Frank Lampard is the coach of Chelsea, the academy players have played extremely well and we're in the top 6, so its going well so far considering the circumstances.
What I do like about this new Chelsea is that the youth are getting their opportunities to play(something we hadn't done much as a club in the last 14-15 years despite having one of the best academies in the world).
A couple of players have impressed me so far: Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James. All produced by Cheslea, loaned out a couple of times to gain experience and now doing quite well in the Premier League , Champions League and other competitions. I mean Tammy is the joint top goal scorer with 9 goals in the EPL. Thats impressive and Mason Mount has created lots of opportunities for the England forward. Tomori has been solid when called upon and scored a belter in the 5-2 demolition of Wolverhampton Wanderers. It looks like Super Frankie's faith in the youth is paying off slowly.
So far in the EPL ,Chelsea have played well but have shipped in goals as well. 1 clean sheet isn't something to boast about so hopefully will be working on the defensive side of things during the 2 week break. Losing against Liverpool and Manchester United was tough to take in (we deserved a point against the Reds to be honest) but the team will get better as the season progresses. I mean Klopp and Guardiola needed time to implement their playing styles before finding success so lets give Frank Lampard a chance and support him, no matter what happens.
The next set of fixtures look kind for the Blues (Newcastle, Burnley, Watford and Crystal Palace) but lets not get carried away. These teams on a good day can make it difficult for you, look what happened to Man Utd yesterday. Either way I'm hopeful of maximum points before facing Man City in November.Thats going to be a cracker at the Etihad.
Nows lets talk about Europe. Losing at home to Valencia on matchday 1, missing a penalty and players arguing over who should take it were terrible, but getting a win at Lille on Wednesday was vital and now we can face Ajax home and away with some confidence. this is the same young team that eliminated Real Madrid and Juventus on their way to the semis last year. Sure they've lost De Ligt and Frenkie de Jong but they'll dominate possession in both games. They're top of the Eredivisie and the UCL group with 6 points, 6 goals and non conceded so a win at Stamford Bridge is crucial before facing Valencia away and Lille at home.If Chelsea avoid defeat in both matches, they'll definitely qualify for the last 16 and hopefully get a favorable draw.
The Carabao Cup was also good. Winning 7-1 at home against Grimbsy Town was positive. Was also great to see Reece James get an assist and score. Man Utd at home in the next round on October 28 will be good. It gives us a chance for payback for eliminating us in the FA Cup last time around.
Well I guess thats that. So far so good after 8 matches. Still 30 more to play but top 4 is realistic this year but the defence needs to improve ASAP.
Thanks for supporting my blog and if you would like to share or discuss football, feel free to do so by commenting or contacting me via social media.
Have a good week everybody!!
In case you missed the 4-1 win at Southampton yesterday, here are the highlights.
