Chelsea v Aston Villa: The Blues drop more points in the Premier League
Hi everyone
I hope you're well and had a wonderful Christmas. Sorry for the late article. Its been a busy couple of weeks. So Chelsea once again dropped points in the Premier League at home to Aston Villa last night with a 1-1 draw leaving them 6th and 6 points behind leaders Liverpool. Well we have to be thankful that none of our rivals won during Boxing Day.
With Lampard ringing in the changes due to the matches coming thick and fast, it was a chance for some of the players to stake their claim to a starting berth for the next couple of matches. Once again the Blues dominated the possession but did not put it to good use until Olivier Giroud scored a wonderful header towards the end of the 1st half, making that his 7th goal in all competitions and 3rd goal in 4 Premier League matches. Impressive stats considering how underused he is at Chelsea. Hopefully he wont leave Chelsea in January but that could happen with him targeting to be in the French squad for Euro 2020(even though its in June 2021).
In the second half Chelsea continued dominating the match until Aston Villa equalised through El-Ghazi with questions of a foul on Christiansen, which was viewed as a non foul by VAR. Despite the continued dominance of the Blues, they couldn't find a way through the stubborn Villa defence. Timo Werner, devoid of confidence missed a wonderful chance to win it for the Blues in the final minutes.
So the month of December has seen Chelsea win only twice, lose 3 times and draw once in the Premier League, resulting in 7 points from 18,which is very poor. Could this be because of the coach's reluctance to change formations or play players in the right positions? Hard to say. Lets hope for a better start to 2021.
Anyway have a wonderful end to the year and lets hope 2021 will be a better year for us all
Take care and be safe out there
See you in 2021
