Chelsea v Man City: The Blues get ripped apart by the Cityzens in the Premier League

Hello everyone! Bonne année! Happy New Year

I hope you all had a restful festive season. Sunday saw the Blues take on Man City in an epic match at Stamford Bridge in the EPL. After a disappointing December with the Blues earning only 4 points out of 18, this was the kind of match that was supposed to kick start their campaign, but what was to follow was a calamitous showing from Frank Lampard's men.

After more than half an hour played Chelsea were already 3-0 with goals from Gundogan, Foden and De Bruyne. To cut a long story short Chelsea didn't show up on Sunday night. Despite the changes made by the gaffer, Man City ripped apart the non existent midfield of Kanté, Kovacic and Mount. Also the full backs Azpilicueta and Chilwell were nowhere to be seen either. Timo Werner still looks devoid of confidence with no goals in 12 matches One would think that Giroud would get a start but he didn't even come off the bench. Neither did Tammy Abraham. The only player who really tried was Pulisic and a special mention for Hudson-Odoi who scored the consolation goal for Chelsea.

Once again Frank Lampard gets his tactics wrong. Instead of going with 4-2-3-1, he sticks with 4-3-3 which clearly has been failing him in the last month or so. Also he got his changes wrong. Why take out Kanté which leaves an already weak defence exposed? Why didn't he take out Mount or Kovacic who did nothing all game? To be honest he has to take a leaf out of Mourinho's book. When facing a team like Man City and you have intentions to counter-attack, flood the midfield and dont play a high line. Anyway its back to the drawing board for him as Morecambe visit the Bridge this Sunday in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. I expect the gaffer to ring in the changes with games against Fulham, Wolves, Leicester and Burnley to come. The Blues can't afford to drop any more points with top 4 now a priority. The league title is beyond reach, despite the table showing that its quite congested between 1st and 9th.

So for now Lampard's job is safe despite The Athletic revealing that the Chelsea board are looking at 4 manager to take over if results fail. Thomas Tuchel, Allegri are being considered by the board if the Blues dont improve quickly. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Anyway thank you very much for your support in 2020. And if ever you want to discuss all thing football, dont hesitate to contact or follow me on social media.

FA Cup prediction: Despite the changes that will be made by the gaffer on Sunday, I expect the Blues to easily make it to the next round. Chelsea to win 3-0.
