Liverpool v Chelsea: 10 man Blues hold on to precious point

I hope you're well and enjoying the Summer break(if you're still on holiday) or if you've already returned to work or school, I hope the return wasnt too hard on you guys. I made mine last week after a nice break from writing and launching my football podcast The Green Pitch with my mate Jese back in June for The Euros. Thank you all so much for the continued support. We strive to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone. From September to December we will be focusing on the Champions League so be on the look out for that. Moving on, last week saturday Liverpool and Chelsea played to a 1-1 draw at Anfield in a dramtic EPL clash. With the two teams looking to clinch top spot before the international break,there was a lot at stake. Kai Havertz scored a wonderful looping headerfrom a Reece James corner to give the Blues the lead before a penalty drew Liverpool level with former Blue Mo Salah scoring the spot kick and Reece James getting a red card from Anthony Taylor. Tensions definitely flared between the 2 sets of players at stoppage time. 

The European champions had to dig in deep and defend valiantly to keep the Reds at bay for the whole of the second half. This was definitely a defensive masterclass from the Blues and the defenders have Edouard Mendy to thank for his 6 saves that allowed Chelsea to head back to West London with a point. If you ask me Thomas Tuchel was the happier of the 2 coaches. Jurgen Klopp will be wondering how his side didnt bury their chances. Nevertheless it was definitely an entertaining match between 2 favorites for the title at a packed Anfield. The defence and midfield did their jobs respectively but of course the attack was lacking due to playing with 10 men. Hopefullly the card will be rescinded as the referee only looked at a still image and not a complete video. Very poor refeereing if you ask me.

Unfortunately there was a casualty as Kanté had to be replaced by Kovacic and Thiago Silva came on and did quite. So did Trevoh Chalobah. Very inspired changes from the manager. Overall a good performance from Chelsea. Just a pity that Lukaku was isolated the whole second half with no service from James therefore Van Dijk had a field day. Despite that Chelsea are fourth behind Tottenham,West Ham and Man Utd.

Next up for Chelsea is Aston Villa at the Bridge after the international break then the Champions League begins with a home tie against Zenit St Petersburg. There'll be a new article on the Villa game the following monday.

Champions League: What a week of drama

  Copyright fr.uefa.com Good afternoon everyone I hope you are all well and enjoying the last few weeks of the summer holidays,albeit in difficult circumstances. So the UEFA Champions League made its return 2 weeks ago with 2nd leg ties that still  needed to be played like Chelsea v Bayern Munich, Lyon v Juventus and Manchester City v Real Madrid and boy were there surprises with Lyon making it past the Italian Champions despite a 2-1 defeat and of course the end of Maurizio Sarri's tenure as head coach. Bayern Munich and Man City qualifying werent really shocks as the damage was done in the 1st leg, at least for Chelsea but thats not the exciting part.So for the first time ever 2 French teams in the semis and PSG's first semi final appearance since 1995.  Last Wednesday saw PSG come from behind to defeat Atlanta 2-1 with Marquinhos and Choupo-Moting gettting the goals. Chelsea v Southampton: 2 points dropped by the Blues

 Good afternoon everyone  I hope you're well and had a good weekend. So what a dramatic weekend of football we had starting with the Merseyside derby and it continued with Chelsea-Southampton which finished 3-3 after the Saints managed to grab a point at the death thanks to Vestergaard. Once again Chelsea fail to kill off a match and this will cost them dearly come end of the season. Where do I begin? oh yes the defence. With Mendy injured, Kepa was put in the starting XI to prove his worth to the coach and he failed the test. With Thiago Silva being left out with Sevilla to come in midweek it was the duo Zouma-Christiansen and I wasnt convinced one bit. Thankfully Lamaprd will be able to call on him for tomorrow's match and with Man United to come at the weekeend,it'll be interesting to see which team he sends out tomorrow night at the Bridge.Glad that Werner got a double and Havertz scored as well.
