Chelsea arent ready to compete with Liverpool or Man City
Good afternoon everyone
Happy Monday!I hope you had a restful weekend and are ready for a brand new week. Its hard to believe that the year is ending in less than 100 days. How time flies!
Anyway lets get into business. Yesterday's blockbuster match turned out to be one to forget after falling to a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. Lets be honest from kick off the strategy was to keep it tight at the back for as long as possible (a page from Jose Mourinho's book) and counter attack, which is very unlike Frank Lampard. All was going well until the 44th minute when Andreas Christiansen did the unthinkable and fouled Mané outside the box. At first he received a yellow card but after a VAR review it was changed to red and thats where it all fell apart for the Blues. Lack of experience? Naivity? Its hard to say but he'll miss the game in midweek in the Carabao Cup against Barnsley. Looks like Rudiger will be recalled and hopefully Thiago Silva will play as well. This defence needs all the experience possible. The only players that really tried were Werner and Kanté. The rest were poor.
No surprise that Mané scored a quick double in the second half and it was effectively game over. The first one a header and the second a careless mistake from Kepa. I believe he has played his last game for Cheslea despite Lampard backing him in the post match interview. For a £72 million signing he has been poor for the last 18 months and a poor defence in front of him hasnt helped either so its back to the drawing board for the Blues this week.
Looking at how much has been spent in the window (around £250 million), one cant wait for the injured players to play like Ziyech and Chilwell. They'll definitely improve the team but the new boys will need at least a year to intergrate and get used to the Premier League. This team isnt ready to compete for the title. They'll be competing for top 4 like last year and the year before. I know its too early to write off the Blues so I'll give them grace and see what happens between now and Christmas. If Chelsea are in and around the top 3 then fantastic. If not its a scramble for top 4. Super Frankie is definitely on borrowed time. I never thought I'd write that on my blog.
So next up is Barnsley in the Carabao Cup and I expect the team to reach the next round where a possible meeting with Tottenham and Mourinho awaits.
Here are the highlights from yesterday's game in case you missed it.
Ciao and thank you for reading my articles.
