Chelsea v Spurs: London derby ends in a stalemate

 Hello everyone

I hope you're well and had a good weekend. As we approach the month of December the games come thick and fast. If I'm not mistaken there'll be an average of 2 games every 3 days between now and the 21st of december then Boxing Day on December 26 when Chelsea travel to Arsenal for a much anticipated derby in the late afternoon at 4:30pm. These are the kind of matches I would watch with my brother but due to Covid-19 and restrictions it will not be possible this year unfortunately.

Anyway lets focus on Sunday's match which ended in a goaless draw at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham will definitely be the happier of the 2 teams with a point as that puts them on top of the table with 21 points and Chelsea remain 3rd with 19 points. Of course this is all likely to change when Leicester face Fulham later today so the Blues will likely be in 4th place at the end of the evening. 

To be honest both teams were cautious in their approach,only attacking on the couner. So this is the 3rd top 6 team the Blues have to score against this season(Liverpool and Man United). For all the chances created (not that there were many) Chelsea were quite wasteful and also faced a stubborn Spurs defence. Over €250 million was spent on forwards this summer so one would expect them to have taken their chances but then again this is vintage Mourinho against a top 4 side. He doesnt come to play openly. He shuts shop and nicks the odd goal.

On the other hand bravo to the midfield trio of Kanté-Mount-Kovacic who kept the Spurs attackers at bay for over 90 minutes. Also we have Edouard Mendy to thank. Since his arrival the defence has been solid and the defenders feel comfortable with him between the sticks. Long may it continue.

Overall it was a drab affair and both coaches will definitely be happy with the clean sheet but Frank Lampard will be rueing the missed chance to move top and 1 point clear of Spurs and Liverpool. The good thing about the Premier League is that the season is long so we'll see by Christmas if Chelsea are in and around the top 4. 

Nevertheless I look forward to Chelsea's game against Sevilla wednesday which will determine who will finish on top and in second place followed by a trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United saturday night. A draw in Spain is good enough for the Blues and with many games to play in the next 3 weeks ,expect the gaffer to make changes. Hopefully Giroud will start on Wednesday. He'll definitely give the Sevilla defence something to think about.

Champions League: What a week of drama

So the UEFA Champions League made its return 2 weeks ago with 2nd leg ties that still  needed to be played like Chelsea v Bayern Munich, Lyon v Juventus and Manchester City v Real Madrid and boy were there surprises with Lyon making it past the Italian Champions despite a 2-1 defeat and of course the end of Maurizio Sarri's tenure as head coach. Chelsea v Southampton: 2 points dropped by the Blues

 Good afternoon everyone  I hope you're well and had a good weekend. So what a dramatic weekend of football we had starting with the Merseyside derby and it continued with Chelsea-Southampton which finished 3-3 after the Saints managed to grab a point at the death thanks to Vestergaard. Once again Chelsea fail to kill off a match and this will cost them dearly come end of the season. Where do I begin? oh yes the defence. With Mendy injured, Kepa was put in the starting XI to prove his worth to the coach and he failed the test. With Thiago Silva being left out with Sevilla to come in midweek it was the duo Zouma-Christiansen and I wasnt convinced one bit. Thankfully Lamaprd will be able to call on him for tomorrow's match and with Man United to come at the weekeend,it'll be interesting to see which team he sends out tomorrow night at the Bridge.Glad that Werner got a double and Havertz scored as well.
